Tyler began his OHL career in the 2007-2008 season with the Ottawa 67’s after being named MVP of the OHL Cup Champanionship playing with the Toronto Jr. Canadiens (GTHL). As an Ottawa 67’s rookie Tyler clocked 17 goals and 29 assists over 54 games.
By 2010 Tyler played with the Manchester Monarchs (AHL) into five playoff games. By 2011 he had hit the 100-point mark for the second year in a row, leading the OHL in goals.
In 2013 Tyler was named Rookie of the Year in the AHL, then made his NHL debut that spring playing with the Kings.
